This bag was inspired by the Carolina lips clutch by Diane von Furstenberg that came out a few months ago. It’s a sleek, playful and modern design thats pays homage to her signature lips logo. I didn’t DIY this right away because I was on the lookout for the perfect bag— and I found it with this Kimchi Blue bag from Urban Outfitters. It’s inexpensive (only $34), cute and a great size for spring and summer. This project is very simple— all you have to do is mold the lips in a few easy steps, paint and glue them onto your bag. (Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this is the perfect accessory to wear out on a date or for girl’s night!)

Supplies: bag, Sculpey Ultra Light Clay, gold paint, E-6000 glue, paint brush

I find that it helps tremendously to have a photo up of your inspiration when working on projects, so I set up my Acer Iconia W5 c/o Intel next to my work space. Use a smooth surface to roll out your clay. I covered a cutting board with wax paper for mine.

Break off two chunks of clay and roll into logs. Press them gently together and then squeeze the middle to make an indent where the cupid’s bow of the lips should be. Pinch the ends together to form the corners of the lips and break off the extra clay. Lightly form and smooth with your fingers until the lips are the shape you want. Bake the clay according to the directions on the package and let cool.

Place lips onto bag to judge placement. Give the lips two or three coats of gold paint, depending on how opaque your paint is. When it’s dry, squeeze some E-6000 glue onto the back of the lips, let sit for a minute to get tacky, and then press onto your bag. Let it dry and then wear it proudly!
I’d love to see your versions of this project! Tweet or Instagram me at @sprinklesprings with hashtag #SISDIY
Disclosure: I received the Acer tablet as part of Intel’s Tablet Crew campaign. All opinions are my own.
