Last Thursday I attended the Red Dress Fashion Show put on by the American Heart Association in Miami with Kirstin (at the Setai hotel). Overall I had mixed feelings about the whole thing- it was a fun way to spend the evening with one of my friends (while doing something fashion-related), but they were very unorganized and there was a big drama (which I’ll tell you about later).
We registered as media since we were planning on snapping a ton of photos for our blogs. Right away, we were escorted to the top of the runway with the professional photographers in the pit and waited for the show to start. Imagine us in our pretty outfits and sparkly heels amongst seasoned male photographers in all black with their pro equipment… intense. (Luckily, I had this article from IFB to guide me through the process of how to shoot a runway.)
The show was two hours late (but I gave them a break since it was pushed back from Wednesday due to inclement weather) and Kirstin had to run out to the car to put more money in the meter… but then they wouldn’t let her back in because they were suddenly “over capacity.” So we drove an hour to get there, waited two hours in the pit holding our spots, and only one of us got to see the twenty-minute show. Anyway, that’s enough venting for a Monday morning… on to the pictures! And keep in mind, this was my first time shooting runway, so don’t judge me too harshly :)
They started off with swimsuits- this one is too cute, especially how they styled it. I’ve been wanting to get a vintage inspired one piece for a while. I believe this one is Jantzen.
I pointed out my favorite elements from this look. Those sandals were seriously sparkling as they came down the runway. She could probably hear me from the pit gasping and going “Oh, yes. Yes! Sparkle!!”
Loved the silhouette and the ruffles at the top on this one.

This was my favorite look because it reminds me of my favorite look of the season from Jenni Kayne. Would have been perfect if her hair was straight, but I like it like this also.
This one got some oohs and ahhs. Unexpected turquoise color in the red show. Isn’t that hat crazy?! I think I’d actually wear it.
Love the sleeves on this one. Reminds me of my orange Tucker x Target dress.
This dress is fantastic (I wish I knew who made it). I love the pattern and color, but would definitely have done without the shiny red spandex underneath. Also dying over the heels.
This dress was a bit more pink than everything, but it was a wonderful velvet. And these heels had the cutest embellished heels, I couldn’t resist showing you!
That’s the end of the show!
What were your favorites? And… did I do alright??

You did an awesome job with those pictures! Some of those dresses looked really nice, especially the one with the turquoise.
Ugh, the drama with the show is ridiculous! I can’t even imagine! Despite the drama, was the fashion show worth it?

I’m not sure. It was fun since it was my first “real” show, but I don’t think I’d go again.
I think you did a great job shooting! Sorry about the drama but it looks like the show was fun anyhow. I think this is such a great cause and the dresses are fantastic.

I find that all shows at the Setai start late. Last year the red dress show was at the bass museum and it was reasonably late. Setai is always a mess and lately they’re always over capacity with their events. Someone needs to get it together. I was in the photographer pit too but I knew a bunch of the guys so they saved me my spot so I didn’t have to sit there the whole time but it sucks when you’re standing there in heels. I hate the format there, sure it’s pretty but there’s no place to be seated. At bass I was seated.

Ya I know, it’s a shame they’re unorganized because it would have been a perfect event otherwise— it’s a gorgeous hotel. But it was weird that the only seats available were in the lounge sections (of which I’m sure were VIP only). I’m sad I didn’t get an outfit pic in the step and repeat, but maybe I’ll recreate it another day.

I have that Jantzen swimsuit (not in polka dots but in red) and I can 100% recommend it. Very cute (and supportive if you are a larger bust gal…) Plus the straps come off – so no tan lines :)

Yes, you did a wonderful job covering the event. Your photos turned out great!
My favourite dress from the ones you shared is the one with the flared out bottom that kind of looks like a flower blooming. Very creative!

Your pics rock– great job!! I can’t believe they wouldn’t let Kristin back in- that is terrible! I had a similarly disappointing experience at the kick-off/mini show during Detroit Fashion Week. It was so horribly disorganized that I thought someone was pulling a prank. (I didn’t even bother blogging about it bc my blog is a happy place where I don’t like being negative). In any case, your pics make it worthwhile and maybe next year they should hire you to organize it!

I think you did really fabulous. I’ve been thrown in the deep end of something like that a couple of times and it can be surprisingly hard to get it right so kudos to you. My favorite has to be the long sleeved full length dress. It’s so dramatic. Congrats on doing such a good job. It’s a shame your friend couldn’t see it! xoxo

Well the drama doesn’t sound fun..BUT the fashions are beautiful…red is such a dynamic color on the runway…each model/look was more beautiful than the next.
Thanks for sharing:)
