DIY Sparkle Glitter Boots

I’m very excited to show you my latest DIY project! After planning to DIY these babies, I decided they were a bit much and that I’d prefer something more subdued. Enter the Barneys CO-OP Glitter Boot. The moment I saw them I knew I found my next DIY inspiration (well, after I had a quick whimper about not being able to afford them).

Old Navy Ankle Boots $25 (I got them for $20 at my local store!)

I searched the web for some similar boots with a stacked heel and vertical line and found great luck at Old Navy of all places. (They’re super comfortable too!)

Tan fabric paint and Martha Stewart glitter in “Smoky Quartz” via Michaels.

Squeeze some paint on the boot and spread with brush.

Sprinkle glitter over the wet paint.

Make sure all paint is covered by the glitter then gently shake off.

Wait until paint is completely dry before brushing off the excess glitter.

So, for $25 (including glitter and paint), I have my own version of the $595 pair- score!

UPDATE*

——————————————

A few people have asked me how to keep the glitter from flaking off— I got a tip to use hairspray on them and it seems to be working perfectly. The glitter really didn’t come off so much because I used plenty of fabric paint, but the hairspray is keeping the extra bits on nicely! And please remember to post your DIY photos on my Facebook page so I can see how they all turned out :)

  6. These are AMAZING. This might be one of my favorite DIYs I’ve ever seen. I’m kicking myself because I was given a pair of boots that I didn’t like at all, so I just got rid of them…they would have been perfect for this. Thanks for the fabulous idea! I’m excited to give it a try. I’m thinking red glitter! ;)

Amazing! I am very very tempted to do this myself…especially considering I have a pair of cowboy boots that have a bit of damage that might be nicely covered up by some glitter. (That and I have so much glitter I just don’t know what to do with it).

I love how these turned out! I’ve added sparkles to an under heel of a shoe before, but I never would have thought to do this! I just finished DIYing some boots to shoes the other day. I love that people are starting to get more creative with DIY footwear!

These are so cool – must hunt be down a pair of cheap boots! Did you know that if you spray them with hairspray afterwards it stops the glitter falling off? xxx

i really want to try this :D but how do i prevent the glitter from flaking off? can i coat it with clear glue?

Try spraying them with hairspray first. It seemed to do the job. I’d be cautious about putting glue or gloss over them because I think it would take away from the sparkle a bit. Let me know how they turn out!
