This was some nail art I did recently using Sephora’s Matte Top Coat polish. We’ve all seen various matte nail polishes popping up everywhere in the last few years, and some top coats to turn your manicure matte as well. I finally took the plunge and got a bottle and couldn’t be happier. It seems like everyone and their mother are wearing darker shades on their nails these days (including the now not-so-taboo black), leaving us with a need to restore black’s edge. Turning it matte is the solution; but I took it a step further and painted a glossy black stripe down the middle. This DIY is super easy to do… just don’t tell your mom about it! ;)
Start with a coat of black polish.
Paint a coat of matte top coat over it.
Paint a stripe of the glossy black on top, freehand.
You can also do a glossy tip over the matte if you like. Go crazy with your design!

I love this idea!! I prefer the black stripe across the top. I remember when my mom came to me and said “oh you’ll never guess what color I got on my nails today…BLACK” I was pretty peeved since she gave me a hard time about wearing black nail polish my whole childhood. >_<

Love it! I absolutely love matte nails…they always catch people’s attention more than your regular shiny nails. Right now I’ve been wearing a matte dark green…unusual colour but it actually goes with everything! You’re so right about black not being taboo anymore….thank god because it looks so classy! Try your local Sephora store, but they have it online. There are many other versions of matte top coat out there online also :)
