Borrowed dress, UO shirt, ASOS hat, Nine West shoes, Elliott Lucca bag, F21 bangles
This month’s blog event at Full Time Fabulous is interpreting a trend from this season. One of my favorites that I haven’t tried yet is pleated skirts. I didn’t own one so I borrowed this dress from my sister (thanks Meg!) that she wore to her high school graduation. (The top half is just a deep v and spaghetti straps.) I layered on this cropped shirt from Urban Outfitters that has this really cute multicolored bird pattern on it and knotted it at the waist. I matched the colors in the shirt to my shoes and threw on a straw fedora and some fun bangles.
One thing to keep in mind when trying out new trends is not to invest too much money in something unless you know you’ll be happy with it. So borrow things when you can and buy the inexpensive version first. Then if you find yourself going back to that same item and getting a lot of use out of the trend, go back and splurge if you’re so inclined!

I love a fresh spin on a classic silhouette! You make this wonderful look modern by the punch of electric colors- the silver bag, those technicolor red shoes! Pleats are such a treat- so lady like.

Love this look so much! The skirt (dress – love that you switched it up) is so classically charming and then the shoes add a nice, unexpected punch. And the tied shirt and fedora are just too cute for words!

I love it!! You look adorable–the pleated skirt is totally you. And I love that you tied a shirt over top the dress to give it the skirt effect. Just tried that the other day myself and felt like my wardrobe really opened up. Not like I have a ton of dresses, but for those that I do it’s a great feeling.
Go girl! Great shoes, too :)

PS: Do people tell you, like, everyday that you’re Drew Barrymore’s doppelganger? It’s okay, people do that to me with Anne Hathaway. Let’s make a movie together…

Kara, that skirt looks so darling on you! The blogosphere has been tempting me with pleated skirts for quite some time now. Looking at your style makes me want to go out and buy more pieces to play around with, eep! :)
